Alprazolam was first synthesized by Upjohn it is covered under a U.S. Patent which was filed on October 29, 1969, granted on October 19, 1976 and expired in September 1993. Alprazolam was released for sale in 1981.The first approved use was for panic disorder.
Alprazolam, is probably better known as its brand name xanax, and these also off shoots of alprazolam- Xanor, Alprax, and Niravam, is a short-acting drug of the benzodiazepine family used to treat moderate to severe anxiety disorders; for instance, panic attacks, and anxiety that could be caused by depression.
It is also available in an extended-release and is called, Xanax XR, they can now be purchased in generic form. Xanax is a sedative as well as a hypnotic. Alprazolam may be habit-forming or in other words addicting. In long term use it may also cause physical dependence and if it is suddenly stop xanax withdrawal can occur.
Here’s the catch we know they can cause xanax addiction but we continue to take them because they allow us to escape. I used to use xanax along with heroin and fall out. I OD like this more than once and woke up in the hospital. I would strongly advise that you do not mix xanax and heroin. Some times I also used to get wasted by drinking alcohol and taking xanax and forget what I did the night before this is quite common side effect of all benzodiazapine addiction.
How to beat xanax addiction

Xanaz addiction can be beat; for example, one could taper themselves off. This can be done by reducing your dosage by a pill or less each day. I would advise talking with your prescribing physician about this they can for sure come up with a plan that will help you.
Now if you have been taking them for a long time do not just stop using xanax this can be very dangerous. What happens is your body is shocked when it no longer has the drug and can cause convulsions or even death.
If you have been taking them for a long time or suddenly run out I would seek medical help immediately by going to the ER. There they can help to detox you safely. If you want to learn how to stop using xanax I would recommend going to a rehab that specializes in benzodiazepine withdrawal.
