Oxycontin as a rule is prescribed for people who genuinely need them. These people are prescribed Oxycontin for severe pain plus cancer patients also take it. However addicts have learned of how potent they are and how similar they are to heroin so therefore Oxycontin’s are abused.
I feel sorry for the people who actually need to take them for pain especially when they become addicted to them. Maybe they can learn to find other ways to deal with their pain so they don’t have to take Oxycontin. If they must take it and they realize it has become a problem for them I would recommend trying something like this giving them to a friend or restive to hold.
I know addicts who suffer from one type of pain or another and they are in recovery. What they do is give their medication to a trusted person to hold like their sponsor. Then the two of them come up with a plan on how to distribute the Oxy’s without them holding the entire prescription this removes any of the potential for abuse. All I know for sure is that if anyone wants to get clean they can not do so by abusing Oxycontin it just does not work.
